Port Hires Kevin Greenwood As New Executive Director

HOOD RIVER, ORE. – At their Tuesday, September 13th meeting, the Port of Hood River board of commissioners promoted Bridge Replacement Project Director, Kevin Greenwood, to Executive Director. Mr. Greenwood has an extensive background in port management and public administration in Oregon, formerly serving as the Port Manager of the Port of Garibaldi from 2009-2014 and as the General Manager of the Port of Newport from 2014-2017, before signing on to lead the bridge replacement effort in Hood River. “We are very fortunate to have had such a strong internal candidate for the ED position in Kevin,” said Port President, Ben Sheppard. “His strong port management background, coupled with his depth of understanding of our efforts to replace the bridge and his diligent leadership of that effort over the past five years were all highly valued in this process. As the port evolves over the next decade, we feel Kevin is the right person to lead that effort.”

Born and raised in Vancouver, Washington, Greenwood holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Portland State University and served as President of the Oregon Public Ports Association in 2016 and 2017. He also served as the City Manager in Garibaldi from 2004-2009.

The Port will not be seeking candidates for a new Bridge Replacement Project Director, as that role is now filled by Michael Shannon, leading a team from HNTB Corporation, which was awarded a Replacement Bridge Management Contract by the Port earlier this year. Genevieve Scholl, who has been serving as the Interim Executive Director since the retirement of Michael McElwee in July, will return to her prior role when Greenwood’s service begins on October 1.

“I’m honored and especially gratified to be able to ensure that the Port’s day-to-day business and its most important project, bridge replacement, will not lose any of the momentum that has been built over the past few years,” said Greenwood. “I’m proud of our team and all of the engaged and positive partnerships we’ve been able to build on both sides of the river to achieve the Port’s mission, and I look forward to further strengthening those bonds through hard work and collaboration.”

There will be a no-host meet-and-greet reception with Greenwood and members of the Port Commission on Friday, September 23, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Double Mountain Brewery Taproom located at 8 4th Street in Hood River.
