Winter 2025 Newsletter - Port Eases Parking Demand

This winter, the Port of Hood River will provide two new parking lots for visitors to the Hood River waterfront parks and businesses. The new lots, Anchor Way (located off Anchor Way) behind Ryan’s Juice, and Maritime (located off West Portway) near the Waterfront Park and The Hook will help meet the growing demand for waterfront parking. These new lots will add 131 new spaces to the waterfront parking portfolio, providing desperately needed parking for those who work, play, and recreate along Hood River’s waterfront.

Zoned light industrial, these two lots were the clear choice for new parking, with great access to the booming businesses and the Hood River Waterfront Trail and parks that are highly used by tourists and locals alike. The need for parking has been growing, with the Port’s annual Waterfront Report noting the increase in visitors through parking data collected throughout the year. Parking transactions increased a record-breaking 20% in the 2024/25-year, proof that demand for parking at the waterfront was growing. Inquiries for events along the waterfront increased as well, with parking being a common constraint in planning and hosting. The Port is hopeful that by adding 131 parking spaces to the area, more events will be added for the community and the demand for parking will be eased. The Port Commission also sees the additional parking as a positive step for the future of the waterfront, being mindful that healthy growth requires thoughtful planning and plentiful parking.

Opening in early 2026, Anchor Way and Maritime will be pay-to-park lots, with options to pay via text or via the Passport app. All revenue generated through parking fees goes directly into the maintenance and upkeep of the Port’s waterfront parks, helping the Port work toward a more self-sufficient waterfront budget.
