For eight years Pedal & Paddle has been offering kayak, e-bike and SUP rental and tours from their location alongside the Nichols Basin. Owned by Todd Anderson, Pedal & Paddle employs 6 seasonal workers and operates as a seasonal concessionaire, approved and supported by the Port of Hood River. Originally focused on the paddle side of the business, the location along Nichols Basin was the perfect spot, allowing beginning water recreationalists to explore the sport in safer and calmer water, rather than out on the main river. As the offerings of paved trails grew, Anderson added e-bike rentals and tours to his business, creating the Pedal & Paddle brand. Anderson appreciated the support of The Port, who allowed for the expanded offerings and understood his vision. Adventurers can rent an e-bike, kayak or paddleboard for various lengths of time and adventure on their own, with trail suggestions and scenic stops along the way. For those looking for more guidance, Pedal & Paddle offers guided tours on the river and along the trails, offering insight into the local flora and fauna of the area.

With a 15-year relationship with the Port of Hood River, Anderson has been a tenant working with three Executive Directors and a variety of Port Commissioners and describes his interactions with the Port as “exceptional.” The Port has proven to be a strong support of his business, with Waterfront Manager Daryl Stafford a liaison who has not only been phenomenal to work with but understands the world of watersports. Anderson is proud to be part of the Port family of concessionaires, describing the waterfront as providing a vibrancy to the Hood River community. With bright colors from sails and foils, families picnicking on beaches, people paddleboarding through the basin, Pedal & Paddle is excited to add to this vibrancy and looks forward to another busy summer of adventure.
