Winter 2025 Newsletter - New T-Hangars for Ken Jernstedt Airfield

The Ken Jernstedt Airfield is a vital rural hub for the aviation community with growing aviation businesses and the popular WAAAM museum, the Port felt it was to tackle some much-needed improvement projects. In the spring of 2025, the Port of Hood River put its plan in motion to create 10 new T-Hangars at the airfield, allowing for more plane storage and additional rental revenue for the airport. The T-Hangar design is a cost-effective option for small and medium sized aircraft storage, providing the needed space and security, without the higher cost of a larger structure. The 10 hangars and grass taxi-lane have proposed projects for the last several years, and the Port Commission is excited to break ground in the spring of 2026. The project will cost an estimated $1.9 million; Port staff and Commissioners have been diligent in finding funding source, and, due to their efforts the project is eligible for Airport Improvement Program grants. Due to their hard work approximately $1.5 million in grants will be applied to the project. With state and federal grants come detailed timelines, and in accordance with those timelines, the new T-Hangars will be ready to lease in the early fall of 2026.
