What is a Strategic Business Plan?

A Strategic Business Plan (SBP) is a document that acts as the primary strategy plan for the Port of Hood River, helping to guide Port Commission, staff and Port constituents on the projects, operations and practices for the next five years.

How is a Strategic Business Plan created?

The Port Commissioners, staff, and assisting consultants, spend months gathering data through surveys, public input, and financial analysis to create the SBP. Through meetings and open houses, the Port will hear from the community on which construction projects, funding efforts, economic focus, future development, and overall focus is of most importance for the future of the Port and the community.

How often does the Port create a Strategic Business Plan?

The Port creates a new SBP at least every 10 years. Currently, the Port is being guided by the 2021-2026 Strategic Business Plan. With 2026 around the corner, the Port is taking action to begin the process of having an SBP ready for 2027-2031.

How long does it take to create?

It can take over a year to plan and create the Strategic Business Plan. The Port has a diverse portfolio of services and facilities within the Port District, and it takes time to fully understand and hear from the community on each area of the Port. After data is collected, the document is created and made accessible to the community.

How can I be involved?

Throughout the upcoming year, the Port Commissioners will be hosting several planning workshops, public meetings, and asking for public input through community surveys. The Port will publicize these events and opportunities through their website, social media channels, local news and newsletters.
